Friday afternoon Sonia and I arrived at Quebec City. This city is built at the St. Laurent river whith a harbour and a hill on somewhat three levels: the lower city, upper city and new city outside the city walls. If you are interested in its long history, feel free to search on the internet, which likely explains better than I would do here.
After checking a room for this night, we went to the citadelle where again some festival took place and we had not so authentic lunch. There are a lot of green areas in Quebec which led us back to the more modern parts of the city.
This entrance led us to the upper city with nice places but lot of tourism. The impressive building with nice clouds above it is the Chateau Frontenac which now serves the rich as a hotel.
From the Chateau we went down to the harbour. Along the way we could see nice decks from which the St. Laurent river can be seen. One pic shows the ferry which brings passengers and cars to Levis on the other side of the river. Finally we made it and were at the harbour where we had dinner, which we timed with the setting sun, so that I could get a shot or two at the magic hour.
The following pics are at magic hour including the Chateau Frontenac viewed from the river side. Now we made the whole way back so that I could take a few nightshots and long exposures. Sonia was a bit annoyed about this, but overall she was very patient and I was very busy. Moreover, we bought some beers at the gas station which we planned to drink at the citadelle while listening to the concert. Sonia had to carry these because my hands were busy with the D50, the remote control and the mini tripod. Decide yourself if it was worth the effort. I think it was, look at the one with the light streaks: it is a moving ship in a 11 seconds exposure - Thanks to Sonia!
Here we were back to the citadelle. We sat there on the wall, listened to the music, had a few beers and made another great image of us two and the city lights in the background. It was a 2 seconds exposure at ISO 800 to avoid too much motion blur. To flick the lighter once gave enough light for our faces.
On Saturday we should have met with Marion and Eddie who planned to come by car. But Sonia got a call at 11 p.m. from Marion telling that the car broke on the way to Quebec. So we cruised around lugging our backpacks and everything in the heat of noon. This was not sooo much fun, which Marion and Eddie would not have either. In the evening we met back in Montreal and everything was ok, exept the 800 dollar bill for the car repair...
